Clean for comfort and visibility
A pre-trip clean is primarily about making the cabin pleasant and keeping glass, mirrors and important surfaces clear. Mechanical roadworthiness is separate and should be checked by an appropriately qualified person.
Clear unnecessary items
Remove rubbish, old bottles and items that could move around the cabin. Organise luggage so frequently used items are accessible without creating clutter around the driver.
Vacuum the high-use areas
Focus on seats, footwells, mats and the spaces passengers will use. Cleaning before loading luggage is much easier than trying to reach around packed bags.
Clean glass properly
Interior haze and fingerprints can become distracting in low sun or at night. Use a glass-safe method and check the windscreen from different angles.
Deal with spills before a long drive
Fresh food or drink residue may become more noticeable in a warm closed vehicle. Address the source rather than relying only on fragrance.
Plan the return clean
Road trips often add insects, road film, sand or mud. A safe exterior wash and interior reset after returning can stop the trip's mess from becoming long-term buildup.
